Resilience Increase Index (RII)

Race to Resilience (RtR) measures resilience through the Resilience Increase Index (RII), which integrates two complementary dimensions: the Magnitude Index (quantitative reach) and the Depth Index (qualitative depth). By combining data on how many people and ecosystems are reached with insights into how resilience capacities are strengthened, the Index provides a multidimensional view of adaptation outcomes—capturing not just numbers, but also transformative change, empowerment, and long-term systemic impact.

  • The Magnitude Metrics quantify the number of people and ecosystems expected to become more resilient through partners’ actions, offering a clear measure of reach and scale.
  • The Depth Metrics qualitatively assess the nature and quality of resilience-building efforts, focusing on substantive changes in Resilience Attributes.

Finally, the Confidence Index is applied to assess the robustness and reliability of the reported resilience impacts. It evaluates the quality, consistency, and credibility of the data collected through both Magnitude and Depth Metrics, providing an additional layer of assurance.

By combining reach, depth, and confidence, RtR offers a comprehensive, multidimensional understanding of resilience outcomes, supporting evidence-based decision-making and fostering transparency in tracking adaptation progress.
